LEAVE NOW: Woodgate/Walkers Point Road south of Bundaberg bushfire

Bushfire warning level: WATCH AND ACT

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) advises there is a bushfire in Woodgate and conditions are getting worse. There is a separate warning current for residents in Kinkuna Waters Estate. Residents in this area should follow instructions given in that warning.

Follow your bushfire survival plan now. If you do not have a plan, your safest option is to leave now if it is clear to do so. If you are not in the area, do not return, as conditions are too dangerous.

Currently as at 4.55am Thursday 14 November, a bushfire is burning near Woodgate Road and Woppis Road, and travelling towards Walkers Point Road, Woodgate.

Those in the Walkers Point Road (Woodgate) area should evacuate via Walkers Point Road. An evacuation centre is now open at the Isis Cultural Centre, 49 Churchill Street, Childers for those unable to shelter with friends and family.

Residents self-evacuating from the Woodgate township via Woodgate Road will not be able to return until it is safe to do so.

Fire crews will be working contain the fire but firefighters may not be able to protect every property. Crews, with the assistance of heavy machinery, have been working throughout the night to construct and strengthen containment lines.

You should not expect a firefighter at your door. Power, water, and mobile phone service may be lost.

People in the area will be affected by smoke over the coming days, which will reduce visibility and air quality.

Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if you believe you are under threat.
