Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team detectives are investigating a lewd act which occurred in North Melbourne on 22 March.
Investigators have been told a 25-year-old woman saw a man loitering in an alleyway behind her business on Erol Street about 3pm.
She noticed the man looking at her and masturbating.
The victim confronted the man who quickly left the alleyway and last seen heading along Trafalgar Place.
The offender is described as 50-60-years-old, about 175cm tall with a slim build, short dark hair and some facial hair.
At the time of the offence he was wearing a dark blue jacket and dark pants.
Detectives have released CCTV images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
