Another important milestone has been reached for the major upgrades to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system at the Launceston General Hospital, with the final stage of works to begin next week.
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, said the upgrades were an important investment in the comfort and safety of patients, staff and visitors.
“The Tasmanian Government’s investment in heating and cooling upgrades at the LGH is already making a massive difference to patients, staff, and visitors,” Minister Archer said.
“The new heating and cooling systems are providing immediate benefits in completed areas, helping to ensure patients and visitors at the LGH have a safe and comfortable experience.
“Since the project began in June 2025, new ducted heating and air conditioning has been installed in 68 patient rooms across Wards 4O, 6D, 5D and most recently 3D.
“The upgrades are being carefully staged and sequenced across wards to minimise disruptions to clinical services and maintain continuity of care.
“Delivering critical infrastructure upgrades in a working hospital is a complex task, and I thank patients, visitors and staff for their patience and cooperation as we have delivered this important project.”
Patients have temporarily relocated from Ward 4D and the LGH Northern Coronary Care Unit while the works are completed.
All upgrades are expected to be finished by early 2027.
