Liberals and Nationals commit to building the Kilmore Bypass

Mitchell Shire Council has welcomed a commitment from the Liberals and Nationals to secure the land, complete the business case and build the Kilmore Bypass.

What’s been announced?

Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland MP and Leader of The Nationals Danny O’Brien MP announced in Kilmore that a Liberal and Nationals Government would secure the land, complete the business case and build the bypass, getting heavy trucks out of Sydney Street.

Why does it matter?

The bypass has been one of Council’s top advocacy priorities for many years.

Kilmore’s population is close to 13,000 and is set to double over the next 20 years, yet heavy freight still rolls through the middle of town every day. Getting trucks off Sydney Street means a safer main street, a better run for freight on the Northern Highway and a real chance to showcase Victoria’s oldest inland town.

The preferred route has been chosen and the first-stage Public Acquisition Overlay is complete. Council’s ask is for the next State Government to fund the remaining land acquisition and set a clear pathway to construction.

What happens next?

Council has asked every party and candidate contesting the 28 November State Election to commit to funding the next stage of the bypass. We’ll keep working with all sides of politics until the bypass is funded, built and open.
