In the final hours of the Dunstan by-election campaign, the Electoral Commission has taken the extraordinary step of tweeting the Liberal Party in an attempt to get them to respond to a formal complaint about their campaign material.
With the Liberals seemingly refusing to respond to the Electoral Commission’s enquiries, ECSA has tweeted:
We have received complaints alleging material published by @SALibMedia may be in breach of the Electoral Act 1985.
@SALibMedia Please contact us at [email protected] to discuss further.
The Liberal Party’s refusal to engage with the Electoral Commission is particularly outrageous in the final hours of the campaign, with the likelihood that the offending material is still being used by the Liberal Party as voters cast their ballots.
As put by Tom Koutsantonis
It looks like the Liberals are in hiding, refusing to respond to the Electoral Commission, in the final hours of the Dunstan by-election campaign.
Is the Liberal Party deliberately avoiding the Electoral Commission so they don’t have to withdraw misleading material as voters cast their ballots?
Why has the Electoral Commission been forced to take the extraordinary step of contacting the Liberal Party publicly on social media to try and elicit a response?
We are now in the final hours of the Dunstan by-election and voters deserve answers from the Liberal Party before they cast their vote.
