Byron Shire Council’s Outdoor crew took time out today to meet with representatives from the Tweed-Byron Life Education Action Group at the Ocean Shores Public School.
The Life Education Board presented Council staff with a certificate of thanks for many years of support both financially and practically.
Tonny van’t Riet, President of the Tweed Byron Life Education Action Group, said Council has not only been making annual donations of some $3,000 but staff have also been towing the Life Education to different schools around the Shire for many years.
“This might seem a small thing but it’s vital for this not-for-profit service which teaches and encourages children of all ages to make healthy and safe choices, particularly in relation to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs,” Mr van’t Riet said.
“Council staff have always gone out of their way to help our local Life Education van, towing it to schools and helping with the set-up and this gesture is so important for our service because we are able to use the money we save as a result of Council’s generosity to continually updating and improving our services, programs and resources,” he said.
Malcolm Robertson, team leader Open Spaces, received the certificate on behalf of his team and Council.
“Life Education gives children the information and knowledge that will help them as they navigate the complex issues including drugs and cybersafety in their lives and staff are pleased to be able to help in a small way,” Mr Robertson said.
