Lighting upgrade for Kelly Park

Kelly Park will receive a $360,000 lighting upgrade after Wodonga Council secured a grant from Sport and Recreation Victoria.

The $240,000 grant from The World Game Fund will provide the venue with a 100 lux LED lighting system on the soccer and cricket grounds of Kelly Park.

Wodonga Council will contribute $120,000 to the upgrade.

The new lighting system will replace the old halogen lights.

Cr Kat Bennett said the lighting upgrade was a win for the environment and a win financially for Wodonga Council.

“Installing LED lighting helps to keep council’s costs down and uses energy more efficiently, which helps the environment,” she said.

“This also helps our many sporting volunteers as they will be able to remotely access and operate the lights saving them time.

“It will help our sporting clubs who wish to hold competitions as the lights can be used for night games.”

Twin City Wanderers and other winter sports will be the main beneficiaries of the new lighting.

Belvoir Cricket Club also use the venue during summer.

The works are due to be completed by the end of the year.
