Like-minded leaders meet to tackle humanitarian issues with tech at Australian Red Cross Humanitech Summit 2023

Australian Red Cross

Today, Australian Red Cross will host the third annual Humanitech Summit at the State Library Victoria, supported by Telstra Foundation.

The Summit is Australia’s flagship event looking at the intersection between technology and humanitarian action and explores ways that technology is being used to tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges. The day will bring together more than 150 international technologists, community leaders, corporate innovators, policymakers, and academics.

Highlights will include hearing from the minds:

  • harnessing ‘digital humans’ to increase access to sign language,

  • chatbots tackling racism,

  • working with First Nations people to shape digital identity, and

  • tackling extreme heat conditions with climate intelligence tools.

Taking centre stage at the summit will be speakers from Australia’s commercial, community, and innovation sectors who will share their expertise on how advances in AI, machine learning, blockchain, and frontier technologies can be used to improve disaster response, increase climate resilience, support migrants in transition, and save lives.

Interviews are available with Penny Harrison, Chief of Staff at Red Cross, and Katy Southall, Head of Humanitech along with founders and CEOs of tech tackling humanitarian issues on the ground around Australia.
