Lilydale Library has reopened in its new home on Main Road, near Lilydale Memorial Hall, offering the community a welcoming and easy-to-access place to read, learn, meet and connect.
The $150,000 project has created a central place for the community, with more space, better facilities, and more ways for people of all ages to use the library.
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said our Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is building stronger communities and enhancing our regions.
“This has been such an exciting project and, at its heart, is the Lilydale community,” Minister Palmer said.
“We want to see this warm and inviting space embraced as a place where people of all ages and interests can gather, learn, connect and feel welcome.”
The new library will offer Open Library Access, a program that allows approved members to use the library outside of staffed hours. Members can browse the collection, borrow books using self-checkout, collect holds, use computers and printers, and access free wi-fi.
Open Library Access hours are 7am to 9pm, seven days a week.
Liberal member for Windermere, Nick Duigan, said Open Library Access would give members more choice about when they use the library.
“We are delivering on our commitment to support even more Tasmanians to make the library part of their everyday lives,” Mr Duigan said.
“Seeing this new library come to life is truly fantastic for our Lilydale community.
“The new location provides more space for a larger collection of books, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks, DVDs and CDs, alongside an after-hours returns chute following community advocacy.”
The library will keep its current staffed opening hours: Tuesdays and Fridays, 3pm to 6pm, and Saturdays, 10am to 1pm.
