Limelight, free, one night only, family event

Murray Arts’ much loved event Limelight: Art – Science – Light is returning to Gateway Island on April 9, 2022.

Taking advantage of the natural beauty, low light and accessible pathways of the Gateway Village area, local artists, sculptors and performers will inspire audiences with an immersive world of light, sound, play and projection.

A free, one night only event Limelight features site specific installations by regionally based artists with strong links to the Border North-East.

Installations include an immersive, large scale 360 projection work, lantern making workshops, fire sculptures and a secret swamp filled with animated laser critters. Imaginations will be ignited, as artists transform the darkness and enlighten the audience’s world.

Adults and children alike are invited to discover, engage and play as they wander along the lantern lit trail to each of the unique installations.

“The very first ‘Limelight: Art – Science – Light’ back in September 2018, was pulled together with a small team, a modest budget and a vision to activate Gateway Village.

It was a roaring success and since then we have fielded countless requests for when is it happening again.

Despite a ridiculous amount of hurdles, setbacks and postponements, we have persevered and it is happening Saturday 9 April”, said Alyce Fisher, Executive Director of Murray Arts.

“It is so very exciting to have been able to bring together a stellar team of local creatives, who will spark joy, wonder and amazement, all the while energizing the stunning natural landscape of Gateway Village. This event is truly for all ages and we are excited to bring our community together, to share in the experience.” Limelight Creative Director, Helen Newman said.

“We have engaged nine creatives to deliver this unique experience and it has been a delight to collaborate with such a wonderful array of talent. We are encouraging everyone from our community to come along and explore this celebration of that which connects us to our natural environment and each other” she added, “Murray Arts has been dedicated to ensuring everyone who wants to come along and experience the night can, so this night is totally cost free.”
