Lisa McCabe makes Men's T20 International Umpiring Debut

Victorian ICC Development Umpire panellist Lisa McCabe has been handed her Men’s T20 International debut in the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier between Samoa and Fiji in Apia, Samoa.

McCabe’s appointment to Men’s International Cricket comes following her continued development and strong performances on both the domestic and international circuits.

It’s the latest in a list of accolades for McCabe who last season made her Women’s T20 international debut when Fiji played Samoa in Port Villa, Vanuatu, as part of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup East Asia Pacific Regional Qualifiers.

Earlier this year, McCabe was appointed as Fourth Umpire for the most recent Women’s Test Match between Australia and South Africa at the WACA in Perth.

Speaking on the opportunity to take the next step in her professional umpiring journey, McCabe said it was a welcome surprise to have the opportunity to officiate a Men’s International game.

“To be representing Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria is a huge honour and a privilege that is not lost on myself,” she said.

“When I found out that I was the 22nd Australian and only the 6th Victorian to officiate an International Men’s game, it makes the appointment just that little bit more special.

“To be presented this achievement from one of my mentors Phil Gillespie, is a memory I will cherish forever.”

McCabe’s journey from country cricket in Bendigo to the lights of the International stage is part of a message she is eager to share with other women and girls in cricket – anything is possible.

“I want to continue to show women, girls and anyone who wants to become a match official that anything is possible,” she said.

“We have such a supportive system in Victoria, that prides itself on inclusivity and support, no matter what you aim to achieve.

“If I can come from country cricket to the international stage, its part of my job now to give back and show the pathway to others to get here.”

On behalf of Cricket Victoria, we congratulate Lisa McCabe on this incredible achievement!
