Lismore waste services and recovery update

This update will provide you with the latest information on both kerbside collections and plans for cleaning up flood damaged residential and business properties both urban, rural, and the Lismore CBD.

Please take the time to read through it.

Our local waste and resource recovery operations have been heavily impacted by the flood, and our waste staff are busy establishing interim processing and disposal arrangements to minimise delay of bin collections.

Kerbside collections

Currently there are kerbside collections occurring in non-flood affected areas where access is possible and this will increase from tomorrow Thursday, 3 March.

This means that residents with waste, organics and recycling kerbside collections are asked to keep to their weekly scheduled bin collection.

While kerbside collections services get back to normal, residents are requested to prioritise disposal of putrescible wastes (food, nappies, sanitary) above other non-putrescible wastes. This will help minimise health risks developing.

Flood clean-up

Currently we are asking residents not to return to flood affected properties or buildings until it has been cleared safe to do so by the SES. Arrangements are being made with NSW Public Works for collection of flood damaged properties and items in urban, rural and Lismore CBD affected areas.

Lismore City Council will keep the community updated as details of the clean-up are confirmed. Current priority is focused on ensuring access to affected areas is possible and safe to do so.

Please prioritise disposal of putrescible wastes (food, nappies, sanitary) above other non-putrescible wastes. This will help minimise health risks developing.

Residential

Flood damaged items will be collected from the front of households, and it is recommended to place items at the front kerb. Please note, the Lismore water supply is running critically low, and we ask you not to use water to clean your property until told to do so.

Lismore CBD

When the SES deem it is safe for business owners to enter the CBD, Lismore City Council is asking businesses in the CBD to contact Council to organise priority skip bin delivery once the flood clean up begins. This is to ensure access to footpaths and streets stay open for vehicle access and waste trucks.
