List of 2022 NRW Horsham activities

Each year National Reconciliation Week (NRW) celebrates and builds on the respectful relationships shared by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians.

This year NRW runs from Friday 27 May to Friday 3 June. The theme is ‘Be Brave. Make Change’.

All residents are encouraged to join in one of the local events being held.

2022 COMMUNITY EVENTS

Opening of Silo Art Project

Friday 27 May, 6pm

Mill Street Horsham

Following the opening, there will an informal walk down Yangga Tyerrang Street (Firebrace Street), with the way lit up by projections of local first people artwork.

The walk will end at Warta Tyerrang Muwil (Sawyer Park) for presentation of new artwork by local Gunditjmara and Wotjobaluk artist Tanisha Lovett.

Entertainment will be provided and food is available for purchase. Bus Transport will be available from the Silo to Warta Tyerrang Muwil (Sawyer Park).

Skillinvest – Sculpture Unveiling

Tuesday 31 May, 10am to 11.30am

Location: Skillinvest, 15-17 Dimboola Road, Horsham

Federation University – Launch of Dyata (Country) Place of Being Project

Friday 3 June, 1pm to 2.30pm

Federation University – Horsham Campus Baillie Street

The launch is the first stage of what will be part of a much larger cultural project for all community to learn and share. There will be a welcome to country by Aunty Jenni Beer and a smoking ceremony to open the event with lunch provided.

  • Firebrace Street and Sawyer Park will be temporarily renamed. Firebrace Street will become Yangga Tyerrang (Young gun Ch-rang) – Walk Together and Sawyer Park will become Warta Tyerrang Muwil (War-da Ch-rang Moo-will) – Come Together All
