List of recipients of Council supported activities

Clarence Valley Council provides financial support for many community groups and individuals through a range of programs. The recipients of the latest rounds of the Special Event Sponsorship, Community Initiatives Program, Cultural and Sports Trust Fund and the Clarence and Lower Clarence Sports Advisory Committees funding were confirmed at the Ordinary Council Meeting held at Maclean Council Chambers on 27 June.

Cultural and Sports Trust Fund:

Grafton hockey player Martina Williams has been selected to represent the NSW State team at the 2023 Australian National Under-18 Girls Hockey Championships which start in Hobart today (29 June).

Martina will receive $300 from Clarence Valley Council to assist with her travel, accommodation and competition costs.

A total of $5,000 is currently reserved for Cultural and Sport Trust Fund donations each year. Clarence Valley residents up to 19 years are eligible for up to $300 to represent NSW and $550 to represent Australia. Click here for more information.

Special Event Sponsorship – 2023/2024 Round One:

A total of $59,750 in sponsorship was allocated for the following 14 events to take place between August 2023 and February 2024:

  • Yamba Veterans Golf (13-18 Aug) – $1,000
  • Motorfest – Grafton Vintage Motor Vehicle Club (27 Aug) – $1,500
  • Maclean Women’s Golf (25-26 Sept) – $500
  • GBomb – Mountain Bike Event (30 Sept – 02 Oct) – $4,000
  • Yamba Bowling Club Euchre Tournament (21-22 Oct) – $750
  • Grafton Jacaranda Festival (27 Oct – 02 Nov) – $33,000

PICTURED: The Grafton Jacaranda Festival Committee will receive $33,000 in Special Event Sponsorship for the festival, as a major tourist event that continues to attract increased numbers of overnight visitors.

  • Flow – Northern Rivers Performing Arts (01-10 Nov) – $5,000
  • Yamba Rod Run (11 Nov) – $1,500
  • A Christmas Spectacular – Rotary/Accent Productions (02 Dec) – $1,500
  • Clarence Valley Country Muster – Christmas Concert (09 Dec) – $1,50
  • Christmas together late night shopping Maclean – Maclean District Business Chamber (15 Dec) $1,500
  • Grafton December Weekend of Rowing (Dec) – $1,500
  • Yamba Ocean Swim (07 Jan) – $1,500
  • Love Sweet Love – Yirrmal and band Australian Tour (10 Jan) – $5,000

Clarence and Lower Clarence Sports Advisory Committees:

Council endorsed the Clarence and Lower Clarence Sports Advisory Committees’ recommendation to allocate a total of $67,051.45 in funds to the following projects:

  • Grafton Netball Association – shade shelter and seating at Westward Park ($8,216)
  • Clarence Valley Council – aluminium grandstands at Westward Park ($26,850)

PICTURED: The recently completed $1 million upgrade to the Grafton Netball Courts at Westward Park will be supplemented by additional seating and shade infrastructure with funds allocated bythe Clarence Sports Advisory Committee.

  • Maclean Show Society – grandstand concrete pads, stable gates, fridge at Maclean Showground ($12,669.31)
  • Maclean Football Club – replace goal posts at Wherrett Park ($5,000)
  • Lawrence Rodeo – upgrade arena panels at Maclean Showground ($5,400)
  • Lower Clarence Cricket Association – replace wicket covers at Wherrett Park, Maclean and Yamba Oval ($2,093.18)
  • Yamba Buccaneers Rugby Club – supply of storage shed at Yamba Oval ($6,613.64)

The two advisory sports committees are appointed to advise Council on sporting interests in the Clarence Valley area, manage and maintain satisfactory sporting fields and facilities, liaise with sporting groups, promote and encourage sporting activities and make recommendations on the annual sporting grant funding program.

Community Initiatives Program:

A total of $63,975.49 in donations was allocated to the following 41 community organisations for initiatives to take place in the 2023/2023 financial year:
