Lithgow City Council is acknowledging the hard work and community spirit of Council staff, emergency services personnel, and volunteers during the most recent rain event.
The Mayor of Lithgow City Council, Councillor Maree Statham, thanked Council staff, SES crews, Police and emergency services for their rapid and tireless efforts to support the safety and well-being of the community.
“This has been a summer of major rain events for the community to endure, with considerable damage to critical infrastructure. Our thoughts go out to those impacted by these rain events.”
“Some contamination of streams and creeks has likely occurred, and residents need to take care when coming into contact with swollen water courses, even as the rainfall subsides. It is also important that residents slow down, drive to the conditions and take extra care when travelling on water damaged roads and pavements,” Mayor Statham said.
Council crews have been on the ground managing road closures, responding to water and sewer interruptions and supporting emergency services, as severe weather has hit again and again.
Council’s resources have been significantly stretched responding to numerous callouts and emergencies. During this last week Council staff worked hard to:
- Restore road access to the Water Treatment Plant on Bells Road
- Clear trees on Rydal Hampton Road
- Make safe landslips on Sir Thomas Mitchell Drive
- Repair major water mains breaks
- Restore water and sewer services to several towns and villages
- Prioritise the supply of potable water to the hospital and aged care facilities.
Local emergency services were also called upon yet again to respond to the havoc caused by this latest rain event.
