Little Athletics is back on track

Young competitors will be tearing up athletics tracks across Geelong this weekend, as further COVID-safe sport and recreation activities return to the region.

Geelong Little Athletics (John Landy Athletics Field) and Corio Little Athletics (Goldsworthy Reserve) will kick off their 2020-21 track and field seasons at City venues on Saturday morning.

Under City-approved COVID-safe plans that adhere to current restrictions on sport and exercise activities in Victoria, the athletics clubs can operate subject to:

  • A maximum of ten athletes participating in an individual event at a time;
  • A “reasonable distance” being maintained between each group;
  • Sanitising any shared equipment before and after use;
  • All attendees 12 years of age and older wearing a face mask, unless they are competing;

    Clubrooms remaining closed.

  • Only participants and parents/guardians can attend, with visitors not allowed.

The resumption of little athletics follows a range of junior outdoor sports safely returning, such as netball, tennis, cricket and soccer.

The City has also begun offering indoor recreation activities at itsSwim, Sport and Leisure Centres, with lap swimming, gyms and group exercise on offer from last Friday.

Non-contact indoor sport has also resumed for those aged 18 years and under, with Leisuretime Sports Precinct among the stadiums to re-open.
