Live and Local, Sydney Writers Festival comes to Taree

MidCoast Council

Everyone’s invited to see some of the world’s finest authors in real-time as Taree Library brings the Sydney Writers Festival to the MidCoast on 22 May.

The live-streamed event will bring Australia’s biggest celebration of literature, stories and ideas to audiences lovers over three separate shows.

Local literary lovers will hear from great thinkers and also have the opportunity to participate in Question and Answer sessions, with their questions going direct to the stage.

The Festival theme for 2022, “Change My Mind”, is an invitation, a challenge and a promise of intent. It aims to provoke thoughtful consideration, deepened learning and challenge ideas.

The live-streamed program of events includes: “Where Angels Fear to Tread”, “Liane Moriarty and Caroline Overington” and “I was Wrong”.

During “Where the Angels Fear to Tread”, the brilliant legal and media minds of Hannah Marshall, Chris Masters and Kate McClymont choose their words carefully with Erik Jensen. They explore why Australia’s defamation laws are the harshest in the world and what impact this has on good public discourse.

In a special conversation, best-selling author, Liane Moriarty, chats with literary editor of The Australian and author, Caroline Overington (The Cuckoo’s Cry). They discuss her new novel, “Apples Never Fall”, the sensation around her TV adaptations and her broader body of work. Together they examine the art of crafting gripping stories, creating compelling characters and capturing layers of drama.

“I Was Wrong” is a panel comprising of journalist and broadcaster David Mahr, social commentator Jane Caro, Professor Marcia Langton and journalist Maddison Connaughton. They each present a short talk on a topic that deepened their learning, evolved their thinking or changed their mind.
