Live on unsealed road?

Dust Supression

If you’re a Mornington Peninsula homeowner and live on an unsealed road, you can apply to be part of the Dust Suppression Program.

We all love country roads and that ‘country feel’ but in the high heats of summer, no one likes driving on dry, dusty roads.

Our response to this issue is applying dust suppression material annually, to selected sections of unsealed and gravel roads. This is especially important for community assets or roads used as a thoroughfare.

Applications are now open for the Dust Suppression Program. Any resident can put forward their application by visiting our website: mornpen.vic.gov.au/dustsuppression

Applications close on 19 November 2023. The Dust Suppression Program begins in early December 2023.

This is not a Mornington Peninsula Shire funded program. Instead, it is a cost neutral service we assist with.

While the Dust Suppression Program is an important tool in maintaining unsealed and gravel roads, we strongly encourage you to drive to the conditions. It’s important to remember that appropriate lower driving speeds will result in less dust, meaning safer driving conditions.

Anyone can view the list where dust suppression was applied last year, by visiting our website.

The Bureau of Meteorology has declared that El Niño is underway, so we’re in for a hot, dry summer. That means our unsealed roads may be extra dusty, resulting in low visibility for drivers. Please drive to the conditions and if you live on an unsealed road, submit your application to be part of the Dust Suppression Program.
