Liverpool Recycling Centre set to reopen

Liverpool Community Recycling Centre will reopen on Monday 20 September 2021 following the NSW Government’s announcement that Council was able to recommence operations with the implementation of COVID-19 safe practices.

Liverpool City Council Mayor Wendy Waller welcomed the easing of restrictions, saying that Council was pleased to reopen this useful resource for residents and make it easier for people to dispose of their waste safely and correctly.

“With the COVID-19 pandemic Council had no choice but to place important services such as the Liverpool Community Recycling Centre on hold,” Mayor Waller said.

“With the incorporation of COVID-19 safety procedures, residents will once again be able to freely and easily dispose of household problem waste that cannot be placed in any of the household bins.

“I encourage all residents to follow the current NSW Health Orders when they are both in the facility and in the community for the protection of both the public and staff members.

“By resuming the recycling service, we are both helping to reduce the incidence of illegal dumping and waste to landfill, and protecting our environment and the health of our communities.

“Recycling is a vital component of council’s waste management strategy and by using this facility, residents are assisting to divert waste from landfill and other conventional waste facilities.”

The new COVID19 Safe Waste Drop-off process at Liverpool Recycling Centre is:

  • Visitors must not visit the facility if they have any flu-like symptoms. Staff are authorised to turn away any customer who reports as being unwell;
  • Visitors must sign in with the staff member at the entry of the facility using the QR code provided, using their smart phone equipped with the Service NSW Government app. Any visitor without a smart phone, will be asked to provide their name and a valid contact number; and
  • Visitors must stay in their vehicles at all times, and wear a face mask over their nose and mouth while in the facility.

A boom gate is in place at the entrance, ensuring only one vehicle can access the facility at a time. Visitors must follow the directions of Council staff, who will unload items for customers, and allocate them to the correct storage location.

The facility will take all problem household waste including water-based and oil-based paints, used motor and cooking oils, lead-acid and hand-held batteries, gas cylinders and fire extinguishers, conventional tube and compact fluorescent lamps, smoke detectors, polystyrene, and televisions and computers.

Liverpool Community Recycling Centre is located at 99 Rose Street, Liverpool and will be open between 7am and 3pm Monday to Saturday.
