Preschool students from Holsworthy Early Education and Care Centre have visited Liverpool City Council to build their ideas for the future of Liverpool with LEGO.
The 10 children, aged four and five, built colourful houses, towers, farms and a jail boat to patrol the Georges River and arrest the bad guys.
During their visit they met Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller and planning staff who will use the children’s ideas, along with those from hundreds of other people who participated in surveys at Liverpool’s community engagement site Liverpool Listens.
“The staff at our early education centres do such a wonderful job engaging their young students on a whole range of interesting topics,” Mayor Waller said.
“I’m delighted to see how interested the children are in the future of their suburb and city.
“These children’s drawings will be used in preparing a 30-year vision for Liverpool, the Local Strategic Planning Statement, which will guide the development of our suburbs and balance the need for housing, jobs, services, parks and the natural environment.”
More than 450 people have responded to Council’s online survey and hundreds more have spoken to staff in person at community forums.
An interactive map at Council’s engagement platform allows people to drag and drop pins to locations across the Liverpool Local Government Area.
“They can add comments telling us their big ideas for Liverpool and its future,” Mayor Waller said.
“Throughout 2019, Council will reach out to residents to hear their aspirations for their suburb and their community in a range of different ways.”
