Liverpool Youth Council members past and present gathered last Thursday to celebrate 20 years of giving young people a voice in the Liverpool area.
The Youth Council was formed in 1999 to provide a way for young people to present issues and feedback to Liverpool City Council.
Over the past two decades the council has delivered major wins for young people, from the creation of Kelso Skate Park to extended opening hours at Council libraries during HSC exams.
“Liverpool Youth Council has played an important role in the development of Liverpool over the past 20 years,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.
“The Youth Council provides a direct route for communication between Council and younger residents. The council’s advocacy has changed Liverpool for the better and left many lasting achievements.
“Liverpool has a bright future as Sydney’s third CBD and a growing hub for innovation excellence. No one is more invested in this than our youth – and they can be confident Liverpool Youth Council will continue to help ensure Council delivers for their needs.”
The Liverpool Youth Council is made up of 12 young people aged 12-24 from across the Liverpool Local Government Area.
Many Youth Council members have gone on to successful careers in their adult lives including ABC political reporter Dan Conifer and former Liverpool mayor Ned Mannoun.
