Local artist Sina O’Keeffe has secured the exclusive opportunity to have her artwork featured around Nightcliff Village through the City of Darwin’s public art opportunity.

After a comprehensive assessment, in which local artists submitted Expressions of Interest that responded to the themes of place, community and the culture of Nightcliff Village, Sina’s work, Heart of Nightcliff, was determined the eventual winner.

Sina’s work be used in a variety of applications around Nightcliff Village including footpath designs, waste storage screens, drainage grates, lighting frames, deck risers, concrete seats and back rests.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis praised all the artists who applied.

“Submissions for the Nightcliff public art project were of a very high calibre, each with their own interpretation of what represented the community and culture of Nightcliff Village and surrounding areas,” Mr Vatskalis said.

“The winning design, Heart of Nightcliff, is an ode to Nightcliff, from the Casuarina and Grevillea trees to the market laksa and the coffee, mangroves and mudcrabs.

“We thank everyone who submitted an application for their time and talent.”

Sina is a Darwin-based surface pattern designer and illustrator and her work will help create a vibrant, eclectic sense of place within Nightcliff.

To be eligible, submissions were required to feature simple and clear line drawings suitable for use across a variety of applications, with the selected artist receiving a copyright agreement and fee of up to $9,000 for licensing their work.
