Local Mt Evelyn initiative to drive social change

The Morrison Government is backing-in an innovative Mt Evelyn organisation with a $125,000 investment that will drive social change.

Knoxbrooke Enterprises Ltd provides employment opportunities for people with disability at their Yarra View Nursery. As a result of significant demand, their current 12-acre site has become inadequate.

“The business will receive $125,000 in funding to improve business practices and generate additional capital to help secure an additional site to grow their operations and increase employment opportunities for people with disability,” Minister for Families and Social Services Anne Ruston said.

Member for Casey Tony Smith said the nursery is doing great work in the local community addressing areas of social need and is helping to make a practical difference to the lives of people with disability.

“By providing this local organisation with $125,000 of specialist support they will be able to build their capacity to employ more people with disability,” Mr Smith said.

“Yarra View Nursery employs over 100 adults with an intellectual disability. It assists people to realise their full potential in the supported employment environment, providing them skills, confidence and opportunities that would otherwise not be available.”

The grant has been allocated under the Morrison Government’s $7 million Sector Readiness Fund.

The Sector Readiness Fund is administered by Impact Investing Australia. Social enterprises are encouraged to apply: www.investmentready.com.au

Since November 2018, the Morrison Government has provided more than $1.7 million to 15 organisations from a range of sectors, including housing, early childhood and education, health and wellbeing, employment, training, agriculture and Indigenous organisations to drive social change.
