Local musicians join all-ages concert

Border performers Asha Bright and Iva Mahani are both over the moon as support acts for The Push All-Ages Tour at The Cube Wodonga courtyard on Sunday.

Asha, who performed at Wodonga Council’s CoCreate event earlier this month, shot out of the gates post-COVID with two new releases (Burnt Toast and Marmalade and Not 4 U) which have gained the attention of local punters on the Atomic Music streamspace and triple j Unearthed.

The 17-yeard-old from Beechworth is riding a wave of new interest in her music including recently spending six weeks at No. 1 on the Atomic Music countdown and increasing her following across all streaming platforms.

Asha was chosen by triple j Unearthed to support Australian artists such as Allday, JK-47 and Isaiah Firebrace who will make The Cube Wodonga courtyard come alive on Sunday.

17-year-old Iva, a student from Saint Mary MacKillop College in Jindera, possesses a voice far beyond her years and has a sound that portrays the future of R&B/Soul.

Her original guitar music consists of youthful, yet wise, acoustic R&B compositions.

Sunday’s all-ages tour is one of 18 events taking place across regional and outer-suburban locations across Victoria.

“After a devastating 18 months for both young people and the contemporary live music sector, The Push is excited to have this opportunity to bring Australia’s best artists to regional and outer-suburban Victoria,” The Push CEO Kate Duncan said.

“We’re supporting a stack of incredible artists to get back on the road and into local venues – generating important employment opportunities in areas that have lacked cultural tourism throughout the pandemic, and rejuvenating the all-ages live music scene across the state.”

Supported by the Victorian Government, each of the 18 events are being staged by teams of local young people, as a part of the Victorian Government FReeZA program – a youth development initiative that provides young people with industry skills and experiences in staging events in their local communities.
