Local organisations will deliver community building projects and events thanks to grants awarded by Townsville City Council.
The Rollingstone and District Lions Club, the Totally and Permanently Disabled Ex-Servicepersons Association and the NAIDOC Committee have all received Council funding to push ahead major community initiatives.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said supporting local organisations through grants benefits the entire community.
“Council is proud to be able to support our community groups through providing grants for events and local initiatives,” Cr Greaney said.
“The Rollingstone and District Lion Association will use their $18,500 in funding to host the Pineapple Festival at Pace Park in Balgal Beach which wasn’t able to go ahead last year due to COVID-19.
“The Totally and Permanently Disabled Ex-Servicepersons Association has been granted $11,400 to deliver their newsletter The Bugle which delivers information on mental health and public services to over 400 members.
“The Townsville NAIDOC Committee have also been awarded $37,500 to deliver NAIDOC activities throughout the first week of July which is a significant event for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents and a way of enhancing awareness of Australia’s culture and history.
“The support that Council provides through grants and fee waivers allow our local organisations and groups to start initiatives that make our city a vibrant place to live.”
