Western Australia has reached another major milestone in its preparations for Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027, with outdoor training venues secured across the State to host international teams.
Wanneroo’s Kingsway Reserve, Perth Rectangular Stadium, Waterbank and UWA Rugby Club are among the venues secured, providing visiting teams with worldclass training facilities while giving local clubs and communities the opportunity to be part of one of the world’s biggest sporting events.
The announcement comes as Western Australia approaches the one-yeartogo countdown for Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027.
As part of preparations for the tournament, the Cook Labor Government has committed up to $4 million through Western Australia’s Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 Legacy Program to upgrade selected training venues and community rugby facilities.
The investment will help prepare these community sporting hubs to welcome international teams while long-term providing better facilities for local clubs and helping them support the next generation of rugby players well beyond the tournament.
These works form part of the Cook Labor Government’s PlayOn WA initiative, which is providing investment in community sport and recreation infrastructure across Western Australia. PlayOn WA will deliver 2,030 infrastructure items by 2030, ensuring long-term benefits for communities across the State.
Perth will host the highly anticipated opening match at Perth Stadium on Friday, 1 October 2027, along with six additional premium fixtures across the tournament.
The spectacle is expected to be the largest sporting event ever held in Western Australia and is recognised as the third largest sporting event in the world, bringing global attention, thousands of visitors, and significant economic opportunities to the State.
Perth will host seven matches in total, including the opening match, four pool matches, and two round of 16 knockout fixtures – a first in the tournament’s history with the new 24team format. Under the revised structure, 16 teams progress from the six pools to compete in the round of 16, with winners advancing to the quarter finals.
Hosting global events is a core part of the WA Government’s strategy to diversify Western Australia’s economy, supporting the tourism industry, local businesses and jobs for Western Australians, while building always on, year-round events calendar.
Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 will bring thousands of visitors from around the world to Western Australia and provide opportunities for local businesses, clubs, volunteers and communities to share in the benefits of hosting a global event.
Fans will be able to secure tickets to Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 in a 48-hour Visa Priority Ticket Sale which will take place from 12pm AEST on 28 September 2026 until 12pm AEST on 30 September 2026, ahead of remaining tickets going on sale from 1 October 2026, one year before the opening match.
As stated by Acting Tourism, Trade and Investment and Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:
