Wangara-based company Shorewater Marine has finished replacing 30-year-old boat pens at Hillarys Boat Harbour and constructing new replacement boat pens at Two Rocks Marina.
Delivery of the $4.9 million project has seen floating concrete jetties (B and C) at Hillarys, replaced with a new modern floating pen system. In addition, the new configuration made room for a new jetty (B0) providing an additional eight pens, maximising use of the available area.
At Two Rocks Marina, the construction of a replacement jetty (Q) consisting of nine pens followed the demolition of structures including the original fuel jetty as part of a reconfiguration and major upgrade.
After being awarded the contract, Shorewater Marine employed an extra four full-time staff including a project manager, works supervisor, dive supervisor and contracts officer. Further employment opportunities were also created with the use of local subcontractors.
Local community groups also benefited from the project, with Shorewater Marine donating salvaged timber from the demolished jetty at Two Rocks Marina to the Gingin Men’s Shed, Yanchep Community Men’s Shed and Joondalup Primary School.
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
“The upgrade of boating facilities at Hillarys Boat Harbour and Two Rocks Marina has delivered significant improvements for local residents.
“Local Wangara business Shorewater Marine has benefited from the State Government’s investment in marine infrastructure, with the creation of new local employment opportunities and the continued development of the skills and expertise required for this specialised work.
“I’m pleased local community groups, including local Men’s Sheds and primary schools, have also benefited from the project with the opportunity to re-purpose timber from the demolished Two Rocks Marina jetty.”
