Locals countdown to Night with Bats

Locals can witness the spectacular sight of thousands of bats flapping overhead while helping the Council collect data on local flying fox colonies.

A Night with the Bats at Milton Park in Macquarie Fields is being staged 4.30pm-7pm on Saturday 13 April in partnership with the Redfern Creek Bushcare Group, the Australasian Bat Society, Help Save the Wildlife and Bushlands of Campbelltown, WIRES and Sydney Wildlife.

“This is a chance to connect with nature and learn about conservation work at the reserve and to mix with other families in a relaxed social setting,” said Mayor George Brticevic.

A guided walk to observe the colony roost will be followed by a group head count of the bats as they head off in the early evening to find food.

The event, which attracted a large crowd of people last year, is becoming a fixture in the calendar.

The local colony at Milton Park, Macquarie Fields, is home to the resident Grey Headed Flying Fox which are on occasion joined by the more nomadic Little Red Flying Fox.

Bookings are essential.
