LOGAN CITY COUNCIL staff took out top honours for their work driving the city’s climate response at the national Cities Power Partnership Awards last night.

The Cities Power Partnership Awards recognise the work of climate heroes in local governments across the country who are transforming Australia’s energy landscape.

Logan’s Health, Climate and Conservation Branch staff are this year’s Climate Champion award winner recognising their commitment to cutting emissions and educating the community on climate change.

Logan City Council Mayor Darren Power said the award highlights the city’s proud

and strong green credentials.

“To be recognised as a Climate Champion is a credit to Council’s efforts towards

protecting and enhancing the environment for future generations,” Councillor Power

said.

“It underscores the clever and innovative initiatives undertaken by Council to achieve

our target of becoming carbon neutral.

“This recognition spurs us on to determinedly continue to find new ways to even

further reduce our impact on the environment and tackle the challenges of climate

change.”

Dr Portia Odell, director of the Cities Power Partnership, congratulated Logan staff on their award, noting that they shone in a competitive field of entrants.

“Logan’s Health, Climate and Conservation Branch staff has made a significant contribution to local emissions reduction, achieving carbon neutral certification through leading a range of projects including energy efficiency upgrades and installing large scale solar,” Dr Odell said.

“Logan is tangible proof that Australian communities are rising up to meet the challenges of climate change and play a critical role delivering climate solutions in Australia.”

The Cities Power Partnership Awards celebrated outstanding work from local governments in the fields including, renewable energy, energy efficiency, collaboration and innovation.
