Children across Logan were surprised with gifts from police on Christmas Day.
Officers from Logan’s Domestic, Family Violence and Vulnerable Persons unit spent the day delivering donated toys to children of the district’s high-risk families.
Senior Constable Roz Sheppard says it was a pleasure to bring some joy to children during a challenging time of the year for them.
“These children have experienced trauma beyond measure this year and it was amazing to see their smiles,” she said.
“Children are often the silent and forgotten victims of domestic and family violence because they’re often present and witnessing such horrible acts of violence involving those they love.
“These children often see police arrive and engage in volatile situations; this is a simple way for us to show we are here for them as well.”
Senior Constable Sheppard said the holidays can be a period of increased risk for those impacted by domestic and family violence.
“It’s important to know that domestic and family violence is never acceptable, help is always available.
“For bystanders, it is really important to have conversations with loved ones, to listen and believe what they’re telling you.”
