Logan thespian returns to showcase NRL thriller

A scene from The Longest Minute – a tale of the night of the North Queensland Cowboys won the 2015 NRL Grand Final.

A memorable sporting moment will be retold at the Logan Entertainment Centre (LEC) next week by a cast which includes a former Logan resident.

Footy fans can relive the thrilling 2015 NRL Grand Final between the North Queensland Cowboys and the Brisbane Broncos in The Longest Minute.

The show, from 7.30pm on Saturday, October 5, tells the tale of one football club, one family and an unforgettable Grand Final which was won by the underdog Cowboys in the final minutes through a Jonathan Thurston field goal.

For one diehard Cowboys family, their whole lives have led up to this moment.

The leading character is Jess Wright, who dares to dream despite facing more than her share of knockbacks as a female in a male-dominated sport.

Playing Jess’ mother in the Queensland Theatre Company, debase productions and JUTE Theatre Company show is former Logan resident Louise Brehmer.

Louise says family matriarch Margaret Wright is a down-to-earth character who spends her time trying to make her husband Frank, a former football star, realise that their daughter Jess was a good footballer too.

“She is worried there are no pathways for Jess,” she said.

Louise has an impressive resume through her extensive career in film and television productions, theatre work, voiceover artist, MC and teacher.

She has previously taken part in eisteddfods on the LEC stage.

Between acting gigs, Louise works as a clown doctor at various South-East Queensland hospitals.

Now based in Brisbane, she grew up in Beenleigh and went to school in the City of Logan.

As well as performing in The Longest Minute she was also part of the team which helped to create the play.

“It’s a very accessible story and there are parallel storylines with the Cowboys and the family,” she said.

“You don’t have to be a footy fan to enjoy the show.”

Tickets for The Longest Minute can be bought at the Wembley Rd LEC box office or online via loganentertainmentcentre.com.au/
