Work on the upgrade of Rifle Range Road at Bangalow will begin in July, starting with the relocation of electricity infrastructure.
The tender for the $2.9 million project was awarded at the end of last year, and staff are finalising the work program with the contractor.
Phil Holloway, Director Infrastructure Services, said the project has been a long time coming.
“We had planned to have this project finished in 2021-2022 but there were delays because of cost increases, COVID and then the floods, which were reflected in the prices we received during the tender process.
“The project is partly funded by the NSW Government’s Fixing Local Roads Program, and Council has been working closely with the state government to ensure that costs for the start of construction are managed effectively,” Mr Holloway said.
The Rifle Range Road upgrade project includes:
- Widening Lismore Road to allow for a right turning lane into Rifle Range Road.
- Drainage upgrades including a new major culvert under Lismore Road to reduce flooding and improve access on Rifle Range Road
- A new bus bay and shelter for the north-bound bus on Lismore Road
- A new bus bay and shelter for the south-bound bus on Rifle Range Road
- Shared paths connecting the bus bays to Tristania Street
- Signage, safety barriers and line marking
The aim of the project is to improve safety for pedestrians, especially children, as well as drivers.
All going well the work will be finished by January 2024.
