Long weekend travel update – Kosciuszko National Park

Parts of the Kosciuszko National Park will be closed over the June long weekend to minimise potential outbreaks of COVID-19.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service has provided the following advice in relation to closures of Kosciuszko National Park:

Closed areas: Long weekend closures

• Local communities will also be kept safe from large crowds that traditionally flock to the area over the long weekend, with roadblocks stopping access to alpine resorts and the Main Range around Mt Kosciuszko.

• The resort areas of Perisher, Thredbo and Charlotte Pass, and the Main Range of Kosciuszko National Park will be closed to the public for the June long weekend, from 4pm Friday 5 June to 5am Tuesday 9 June 2020.

• The closure is supported by Thredbo, Charlotte Pass, Perisher, NSW police, NSW Ambulance, the Department of Health and local community organisations.

• Road blocks will be in place to prevent public access up Kosciuszko Road to Perisher, including Guthega and Smiggin Holes, and Charlotte Pass. The road will be closed at Wilsons Valley.

• With the exception of through traffic, the Alpine Way will be restricted between the vehicle entry station and Dead Horse Gap. This includes access to Thredbo Village.

Areas open

• Walking tracks around the Thredbo Valley, including the Pallaibo and Waterfall tracks, plus the Lower Thredbo Valley track below Bullocks Flat are open for walking.

• Thredbo River will be accessible below Bullocks Flat

• The entire length of the Thredbo Valley track from Thredbo Village to Gaden Trout hatchery is closed for cycling, due to track conditions.
