Look out for great bin count

Starting early-June, we will be doing a stocktake of Stonnington’s fleet of residential kerbside waste and recycling bins.

The stocktake will be completed by a team of people who will work their way through the city, going street by street counting bins on waste and recycling bin collection days.

Wearing hi-vis and City of Stonnington identification the team will use a Smart Phone App to match the number of bins at a property to the number recorded in our property and rating system – confirming or adjusting the numbers and bin sizes accordingly.

The team are counting bins to confirm we have an accurate picture of residential waste and recycling bin numbers; they will not be opening bins or examining contents.

We are not counting the kerbside food and green waste bin as we already have accurate figures for these.

We expect the bin count to take several months to complete, at the end of which the data will be used to order new red, yellow and green bin lids for the citywide roll out of lids to match Australian Standard bin lid colours in 2023.

How you can help

To help our team get the most accurate data possible we would appreciate if, for the new few months, you would:

  1. Put out all your waste and recycling bins on collection day, even if they are not full,
  2. Leave your bins out until 4pm on your waste and recycling bin collection day.

Given the scale of the job we can’t guarantee when bins in a particular area will be counted, however we will share news through our social media channels when the count is finished.
