Lotterywest funding grants to help volunteers shine

  • Volunteering WA presented with $255,000 Lotterywest grant
  • Funding will go towards events that recognise and thank volunteers for their important contribution
  • Christmas has come early for Western Australian volunteers, with Volunteering WA receiving a funding boost for events and awards that acknowledge their valuable contribution.

Volunteering Minister Reece Whitby presented the $255,000 Lotterywest grant, which will allow Volunteering WA to operate its National Volunteer Week Grants program.

Up to $1,000 per organisation will be made available to eligible groups to host events and activities to recognise and thank volunteers during National Volunteer Week in May 2022.

The funding will also assist Volunteering WA in presenting the WA Volunteer of the Year Awards.

The Awards are co-ordinated by Volunteering WA and held during National Volunteer Week to pay tribute to volunteers, volunteer managers and organisations who inspire and promote the spirit of volunteering.

Part of the Lotterywest grant funding will sponsor the Community Volunteer Organisation of the Year category in the Awards, which celebrates community organisations that provide innovative leadership and bring about positive and enduring change to their community.

Volunteering WA is the peak body for volunteering in WA, working across community, government, corporate and education organisations to provide leadership, advancement and the celebration of volunteering.

As stated by Volunteering Minister Reece Whitby:

“The State Government has a long history of partnering with Volunteering WA in leading and supporting volunteering in Western Australia.

“The National Volunteer Week Grants program is an important way to thank and recognise our thousands of volunteers for their efforts, which help make our communities thrive.

“WA Volunteer of the Year Awards highlight the important social, cultural, economic and environmental contribution our volunteers make every day.”
