Olivia Geraghty enjoying life in Lithgow
During the COVID-19 pandemic, nurse Olivia Geraghty played a crucial role at the State Health Emergency Operations Centre alongside immunisers to help protect the community and keep everyone safe.
As rewarding as that work was, Olivia found herself searching for something more. When the opportunity came knocking for a rural reset with a position at Lithgow Hospital, Olivia jumped at the chance.
What she found was a renewed zest for life.
“The Lithgow area has a lot to offer to support new and undiscovered interests and talents,” says Olivia, who is now a Clinical Nurse Consultant at Lithgow Hospital.
“So much of our work in health care is about helping others have a better quality of life, but we often sacrifice our own. My job at Lithgow is exciting and every day is different,” says Olivia.
“I am learning so much and have strong support from my managers. Everyone here is approachable and knows everyone by name. It is amazing. I have ample opportunities to strengthen my role and develop my skills further.”
With more quality time to enjoy life Olivia has started to indulge in the many activities her local community offers.
“I’ve had such a wonderful time exploring, enjoying the fresh air and discovering walking tracks. I’ve even begun to attend the local parkrun, something I had very little time to do working in Sydney.”
“I was thrilled to discover the Lithgow Area Women’s Shed. I have made friends with incredible people of all ages and walks of life. Hopefully I’ll master the dovetail joint soon,” she remarks.
