Major award for excellence in community engagement

The Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) communications team has won the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) 2021 Australasia Organisation of the Year Award for its industry-leading approach to stakeholder engagement.

The awards shine a spotlight on outstanding organisations that are at the forefront of public participation and community engagement.

We faced tough competition against 13 other strong finalists but proudly took out the top spot at a virtual awards presentation on Friday 29 October.

Jennifer Kaye, Director of Communications at LXRP, thanked her team for their support and tireless work during a challenging year.

‘Since our transformational level crossing removal project started in 2015, we’ve grown and evolved, but one core value we’ve always focused on is Great Engagement. To be recognised for this makes the IAP2 award very special.’

‘It’s a privilege to work and engage with communities right across Melbourne to make their local areas safer and easier to get around and to leave a legacy for future generations. 47 level crossing removals down, 38 more to go.’

The judges commented the accolade reflects the team’s focus on delivering great engagement in 2020, during challenging COVID-19 restrictions, which included:

  • undertaking 40 engagement activities
  • achieving almost 2 million website views
  • delivering more than 500,000 newsletters
  • receiving more than 4300 contributions from the community
  • building a following of more than 75,000 followers across all social media channels.

The judges also added that LXRP went above and beyond involving the community in decisions that matter to them and continuously drove their team and partners toward improving practices through rigorous evaluation and developing a rich culture of knowledge-sharing.
