The Cook Labor Government has strengthened firefighting capabilities across the Great Southern with cutting-edge appliances delivered to volunteer stations ahead of the upcoming high-threat bushfire season.
It has provided a significant boost to bushfire brigades including Youngs Siding, Napier, and Manypeaks, who recently received new 2.4 Broadacre Tankers.
The durable tankers provide enhanced crew protection measures, including radiant heat shields and burn-over blankets, as well as increased pumping capacity to bolster firefighting operations across the region.
The delivery of the new appliances will enhance the incredible lifesaving work volunteers undertake in the Great Southern and follows the opening of the Kalgan Volunteer Bushfire Brigade’s new fire station last summer – all part of a $6.5 million investment in emergency services in the region.
The modern drive-through fire station features large appliance bays, fit-for-purpose ablutions, and dedicated personal protective clothing cleaning and storage areas to help reduce contamination risks.
The facility also includes a meeting and training room with multimedia capability, improved water-refilling infrastructure, and a large concrete hardstand to support safe and efficient firefighting operations.
