Major intersection upgrade completed

Townsville City Council has completed the Ingham Road and Webb Drive intersection upgrade, which has improved safety for commuters and created 30 jobs.

Acting Mayor Les Walker said the $5.1 million upgrade will improve traffic flow and safety on the busy arterial road.

“More than 13,000 vehicles travel along Ingham Road every day so it is an extremely busy part of the road network,” Cr Walker said.

“This crucial upgrade ensures the best traffic flow for all motorists by improving heavy vehicle movements in and out of Webb Drive.

“Work on the project finished last Friday, so motorists should already notice the difference on their daily commute to and from work.”

The project received $1.7 million from the Federal Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program and $1.1 million from the Queensland Government’s Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme.

Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Mark Molachino said the upgrade was part of Council’s huge infrastructure spend for the 2018-19 financial year.

“These intersection upgrades keep our city moving and create dozens of jobs,” Cr Molachino said.

“Council is totally committed to improving the city’s road network right throughout our community.”
