  • The McGowan Government has provided a $1.575 million grant for a major refurbishment of the St Bart’s House facility in Lime Street, East Perth.

The refurbishment will incorporate an improved design which will have a specific focus on supporting service delivery for people with complex needs, as well as improving the privacy, security and functionality of the building.

Refurbishment works are due to be completed by mid-2022. The works will not interrupt normal services and the facility’s bed capacity will not be affected.

The McGowan Government invests more than $100 million annually on homelessness support services and will spend $2.1 billion in this term of Government to significantly expand the availability of social housing across Western Australia.

As stated by Homelessness Minister John Carey:

“As the Minister for the newly created Homelessness portfolio, my focus is on ensuring the Government is doing what we can to improve outcomes for people sleeping rough in Western Australia.

“While expanding support is important, it’s also critical we ensure the current facilities and services are maintained to a high level.

“St Bart’s has been providing critical accommodation and support services from their facility on Lime Street for many years, and this improved design will ensure we can enhance the service delivery.

“As a Government, we invest more than $100 million towards homelessness services every year, and my focus will be to ensure we are getting the best use out of the significant resources already being thrown at this challenging issue.”
