Making Benalla More Accessible By Upgrading Irwin Road

  • Minister for Roads

The Andrews Labor Government is working with the Benalla City Council to upgrade Irwin Road, giving passengers with different needs better access to the Yooralla disability job service provider.

Minister for Roads Jaala Pulford today announced in the Victorian Parliament today that Irwin road will be extended to create a turning circle for vehicles, allowing buses to safely access the road.

The current bus route is a significant distance from Yooralla Business Enterprises, meaning elderly passengers and passengers with accessibility needs must travel long distances to get to the job provider.

The turning circle is currently under construction and on track for completion over the next few weeks and will allow the public bus route to be extended so that locals can access Yooralla safely and directly.

Adding the bus turning circle will also improve transport options along Sydney Road, while boosting the overall accessibility of transport in Benalla.

Drainage and signage along the road will also be upgraded creating a safer, more reliable road for drivers and pedestrians.

As stated by Minister for Roads Jaala Pulford

“This upgrade will make Benalla a more accessible place for everyone, and means people living with a disability can safely access the Yooralla job service provider.”

“It’s small changes like this that make a big difference to people living with a disability in Benalla.”

As noted by Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes

“We’ve listened to locals, and this upgrade will mean people needing to access Yooralla’s services can now do so safely.”
