It’s Local Government Week, an event dedicated to the important work councils do for their communities. To acknowledge our dedicated staff, we are sharing with you a bit about them and how they help you in Kempsey Shire.

Say hi to Zak! He is part of the Civic Services team that looks after parks and gardens around the shire.

There’s no doubt the Macleay Valley is a beautiful place, and Zak and his family are very grateful for the activities and attractions in his backyard.

“My favourite thing about the Macleay Valley is that we can drive a short distance and we’re at a beach or a swimming hole in the bush, which is where you’ll find me on weekends spending time with my partner and daughter.”

A typical day for Zak at Council involves ensuring public spaces are clean and safe for people and user groups to enjoy. The Macleay Valley has a strong sporting and recreation focus, so Zak’s role at Council is important in delivering usable facilities.

“My team and I make sure the spaces around town are free of any rubbish and hazards before we make them beautiful by maintaining sports fields and parks for the public.”

“This includes mowing sports fields, mulching, weeding and planting in gardens, and picking up rubbish left behind so people can be comfortable and happy in these places.”

Zak is one of more than 300 Council staff working hard every day to provide an enormous number of services to residents.
