Making waste clearer at Murray River

Murray River Council

Murray River Council has developed a comprehensive guide that covers the delivery of waste services across the council area.

The new ‘Waste, Recycling, Food and Garden Waste Guidelines’, adopted at last week’s council meeting, aims to address common queries raised by residents regarding the rules and regulations surrounding waste services.

Mayor Frank Crawley emphasised the importance of this new guide, adding that with the diverse array of services it is natural that residents have questions about the associated rules and procedures.

“Our community often reaches out to us with questions like ‘Why do I have to have a waste service?’ or ‘Why are there tight timeframes around reporting a stolen bin?’. We understand that these enquiries are valid and deserve clear explanations.”

“Our commitment to effective waste management extends beyond the basics, so we’ve developed this new guide to help our community better understand the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of our waste services.”

Cr Crawley said the newly developed guide not only explains the rationale behind specific rules but also provides additional information to clarify how waste services are delivered.

“It addresses both legislated requirements and council-specific rules, ensuring that residents have a comprehensive understanding of our waste management practices.”

Council is responsible for managing a wide range of essential waste and resource recovery services, including kerbside waste collection, recycling programs, food and garden bins, transfer stations, landfills, public place street litter, and event bins.

“Whether you have a specific waste-related question or simply wish to learn more, I encourage everyone to take a look at the new guide via our website,” Cr Crawley said.
