Mallacoota bushfire relief centre to re-open

The City of Melbourne will re-open an emergency relief centre at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre for another group of people who are being evacuated aboard HMAS Choules from fire affected Mallacoota in East Gippsland.

The relief centre will provide a place for people and their pets to re-group and will offer essential services from the Department of Health and Human Services, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, St John’s Ambulance, the Salvation Army, Red Cross and City of Melbourne.

The centre will open this evening and will close once all evacuated people have been provided for.

Lord Mayor Sally Capp said the City of Melbourne will continue to offer assistance to the Mallacoota community as required.

“We want to offer whatever support we can to those communities on the frontline fighting these horrendous bushfires,” the Lord Mayor said.

“We will remain in regular contact with the Victorian Government and ensure our relief centre is available whenever it is needed.

“Anyone who wants to help those affected can donate to the Bushfire Disaster Appeal or the Salvation Army disaster appeal.”
