A 43-year-old woman has been charged with high range drink driving after being involved in a traffic crash near Cambridge about 11.15am yesterday.
As a result of the crash, the woman was breath tested returning a breath alcohol reading of 0.267, over 5 times the legal limit.
The driver was immediately disqualified from driving for twelve months and was charged and bailed to appear in court at a later date.
Thankfully, there were no injuries as a result of the crash.
A 27-year-old man was also charged with high range drink driving on Monday night after returning a reading of 0.140, nearly three time the legal limit, at a random breath testing site in Sandy Bay.
The man was charged with a number of offences, immediately disqualified from driving for three months, and was bailed to appear in court at a later date.
Senior Sergeant, Adrian Leary of Southern District Support Services said a learner driver with this level of alcohol in their system is really disappointing.
“He put not only his passenger in danger, but all other road users as well.
“Driving with alcohol in your system is one of the ‘fatal five’ factors in road crash trauma and the consequences could have been devastating.”
