A man has been charged after allegedly carrying a knife in a public place in the state’s south.
About 5.20pm yesterday (Thursday 24 September 2026), police were called to Jondaryan Avenue, Griffith, following reports an off-duty police officer had observed a man carrying a large knife in the street.
On arrival, officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District located a 29-year-old man in a car park on Jondaryan Avenue.
When police approached the man, he allegedly put down a knife before running from police.
He was arrested following a short foot pursuit and was taken to Griffith Police Station where he was charged with hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, custody of knife in a public place, and use knife in public place – cause person to fear for safety.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court 5 today (Friday 25 September 2026), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Griffith Local Court on Wednesday 30 September 2026.
