Man arrested after assaulting Police Security Officer

A man has been arrested after entering the grounds of Government House overnight.

Just after 11.30pm, Police Security officer performing security patrols at Government House, observed a man jumping the King William Road fence into the Government House grounds. Police Security officers with the help of local patrols set up cordons on the grounds and began searching for the man.

The man was located lying in the garden bed along the southern wall. Police Security officers directed the man to leave the grounds and whilst being escorted off the premises, he has allegedly become argumentative and turned around and struck the Police Security officer causing an injury to his eye, nose and right side of his face. Other patrols came to the assistance, and the man was arrested without further incident.

The Police Security officer was taken to hospital where he remains whilst awaiting scans to confirm the extent of the injury.

A 30-year-old man from Melbourne has been charged with being unlawfully on premises and assaulting a prescribed emergency service worker. He was refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
