Man arrested after evade through south-eastern suburbs

Police have arrested a man after he evaded police through multiple suburbs before crashing into a police car and another vehicle in Lynbrook this morning.

Officers spotted the Grey Jeep SUV Wagon driving at excessive speed on the Monash Freeway about 4.40am.

With assistance from the Air Wing, the SUV was followed through Hampton Park, before the vehicle came to a stop on Aylesbury Court.

Police observed the man attempting to open the garage door of residential property, before he got back in the SUV and collided with a police vehicle.

The man then fled the scene in the SUV, before stop sticks were deployed on Short Road.

The SUV continued to the South Gippsland Highway, before colliding with a silver Kia Sportage.

The man attempted to flee down a nearby embankment, where he jumped and injured his leg.

He was arrested at the scene.

The driver and sole occupant of the silver Kia Sportage, a 30-year-old Narre Warren South woman, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

While searching the SUV, officers located and seized a double barrel shot gun, a pistol magazine and body armour.

It is believed the SUV was stolen from Narre Warren on the 25 October.

The driver and sole occupant of the SUV, a 34-year-old Hampton Park man, was arrested at the scene.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is assisting police with their enquiries.
