Man arrested after series of offences across Adelaide

A man has been arrested following a series of incidents across Adelaide’s northern and eastern suburbs on Monday.

Just before midday on Monday 12 October, SA Metropolitan Fire Service personnel were assisting police at a crash on Salisbury Highway, Salisbury, when a firefighter directing traffic signalled for a driver to stop. It is alleged the driver verbally threatened the firefighter before producing and pointing a knife at him and then driving away.

A short time later, about 11.55am, the same man attended a rental car business on Nagari Road, Salisbury North. Police will allege he demanded keys to a hire vehicle and, when they were refused, assaulted an employee and threatened him with a knife before leaving the area.

At about 1.45pm, police received reports that the man had been involved in a collision at Sefton Park. It will be alleged he failed to stop and exchange details following the crash.

Just after 5.30pm, police were called to a business on Fullarton Road after reports a man was threatening staff with a knife. Patrols quickly attended and arrested a 33-year-old Sefton Park man at the scene. A knife was allegedly located during a search.

The 33-year-old was charged with assaulting a prescribed emergency worker (firefighter), two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of carrying an offensive weapon, failing to stop and exchange particulars after a crash, driving unlicensed and driving without due care.

He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today (Tuesday 13 October).

Investigations are continuing and anyone who witnessed any of these incidents and has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact Crime Stoppers online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or call 1800 333 000.
