Detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad have arrested a man as part of an investigation into two sexual assaults which occurred in Hoppers Crossing yesterday and this morning.
A 39-year-old man of no fixed place of address was taken into custody in Hoppers Crossing around 11.40am.
He will now be interviewed by detectives.
In the first incident, a man, armed with a knife, forced entry to a property on Whitsunday Drive around 11.30am on Thursday, 23 July, before sexually assaulting a woman.
This morning, a woman was outside a primary school on Langridge Street when a man followed her into the school building shortly before 7am, before sexually assaulting her.
Investigators are working to establish if both incidents are linked.
A secondary crime scene has been established on nearby Branton Road after a resident reported a possible burglary in their house overnight, with a number of items disturbed.
There is an increased police presence in the area of both uniform police and detectives who will conduct foot patrols and are canvassing for CCTV and witness statements.
Detectives urging the community – particularly those around Whitsunday Drive and Langridge Street – around 11.30am yesterday and 7am this morning to check their CCTV or their dashcam footage.
